About Otters Creek

In 1998, Yumna Allie, a primary school teacher and mother, began a small playgroup at her Ottery home for her daughter and local children, which soon grew into an informal business. She specialized in Early Childhood Development Education, particularly Grade R, between 1999 and 2000. In 2001, Kenwyn Primary’s School Governing Body invited her to start a Grade R class as a feeder for Grade 1. After 12 years, when the lease ended in 2012, Yumna and her late husband purchased a property at 30 Enslin Road, Ottery, relocating the pre-primary there. In 2014, the WCED requested a name change since the school was no longer in Kenwyn.

Our Journey and Growth.

The Evolution of Our School.

A significant milestone in our history was the collaborative effort between our school’s families and staff, which led to the creation of our new name. This partnership resulted in a renewed identity, and we were delighted to usher in 2014 with the introduction of our new name and logo: Otters’ Creek Pre-Primary.

Despite these exciting changes, our commitment to delivering a tried and tested pre-primary school curriculum remained steadfast. We continued to provide quality education for children aged 12 months to 12 years, maintaining our focus on school readiness for every learner.

Our journey of growth continued to gain momentum. In 2018, we proudly expanded our offerings by opening Otters’ Creek Junior School in Ferness Estate, welcoming learners from Grade 1 to Grade 7 and further strengthening our dedication to comprehensive and inclusive educational development.

Our Mission

We aim to recognize each child’s unique strengths and needs, enriching our learning environment with diverse, holistic, and creative content. We assess learner performance regularly, adjust teaching strategies to support inclusion, and provide ongoing staff development. We actively engage parents and seek partnerships with individuals, organizations, and companies to benefit our learners and the school community.

Otters’ Creek Schools is a respected inclusive educational institution dedicated to delivering a comprehensive and diverse curriculum for children aged 4 months to 12 years. Our program provides learners with essential knowledge and practical skills to support their development within an ever-changing environment. We emphasize commitment to our learners, integrity in our interactions, and proficiency in the delivery of instruction. Through a child-centred approach to teaching and learning, we aim to foster self-motivation and inspiration among our learners. We recognize the importance of employing diverse teaching strategies and remain committed to maintaining current and relevant qualifications for our educators.

Important Information

School Communication

At Otter’s Creek Schools we have a School Management System which includes a web portal as well as our own mobile app.

This is used for all communication between the school and parents. Our mobile app has a built-in messaging system which allows you to contact your child’s teacher and it allows you to view your fees and even pay your fees via the app. All news, event dates, photos and documents will be available on the school system so its important that you always have access to it. Our mobile app can be downloaded from the Apple App store or The Google Play store. Just search for: “OttersCreekSchools” or click the icons below.
